Homebrewing Laws

homebrewing laws

If you make your own brew, it’s very important to understand and abide by all of the homebrewing laws out there, both federal and state. The last thing you want is to have your operation shut down because someone gets wind that you aren’t following the laws of the state and federal governments regarding homebrewing. There are some pretty silly, archaic laws out there for homebrewing but we’ll go through some of the primary ones that are absolutely necessary to follow.

One such ridiculous law is that in Oklahoma you can only producer 200 gallons of wine or cider per year, and not beer. The old law also states you must get a 3 year license to do it that costs one hundred and fifty dollars. These types of laws are not typically enforced so you won’t have to worry about them.

If you run an operation out of your home or residence, you will want to make sure that you are in accordance with all of the zoning laws which are completely contingent on your city’s laws. It’s very easy to get noticed and shut down if you don’t have the proper permits and such that are required in order to run such an operation.

The internet is a great place to research all of the thing you need to know when it comes to homebrewing laws. You can also go on the internet to interact with others about how you feel about certain homebrewing laws and standards that are enforced. There is a large and growing community out there of people who are concerned about some of the legislation being passed limiting people who wish to do homebrewing. Some people even go out and protest certain pieces of legislation that have the possibility of passing.

Homebrewing laws are important to follow and if you are truly passionate about brewing your own ale, then you will do the research as to what laws can be bent and which are absolutely not there to bend or break at all. Unfortunately the federal and state government likes to dictate many aspects of homebrewing so it’s wise to do your homework on it.
